Educational Programs at UCM

An innovative medical education approach using Team Based Learning (TBL) will be the main theme for courses.  TBL along with all other innovative tools of learning, such as problem-solving, evidence-based medicine, computer-based E-learning and other types of modern principles and tools used in medical schools will be used.

UCM MD curriculum is organized in a way so graduates will obtain an identical MD degree to that granted by USA medical schools. Therefore, UCM graduate will be able to enter Matching Programs for Residency in USA in any medical specialty as he/she will have already passed United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), Step 1, Step 2, and Step 2 Clinical Skills test, and be eligible for the ECFMG certification upon graduation from UCM.

Unaizah College of Medicine (UCM) at Qassim University (QU) has 2 educational programs:

-       A 2-year Premedical Program (Premed 1 and Premed 2).

-       A 4-year Medical Doctor Program (MD1, MD2, MD3 and MD4).

For Premed program, UCM is responsible for the Premed 2 year education, while QU is responsible the Premed 1 year. During the 2 years of the Premed Program, students are taught university required, courses, e.g. Arabic and Islamic courses, English and Computing courses, Communication and Thinking Skills courses, Ethics courses, in addition to basic science courses, e.g. Mathematics, Calculus and Algebra, Physics and Biology courses and many basic medical sciences courses, e.g. Scientific Research Foundation and Skills, Anatomy and Histology, Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology and Pathology courses. In brief, students are prepared to be able to enter the MD program or similar advanced health sciences educational programs such as Pharmacy Doctor or Dental Medical Programs.

The MD Program at UCM is made of 4 years. MD1, MD2, MD3 and MD4 years. This MD curriculum is organized in a way so graduates will obtain an identical MD degree to that granted by United States of America medical schools. QU has signed a twinning contract with Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSoM) to adopt its MD curriculum. Therefore, UCM graduate will be able to enter Matching Programs for Residency in United States of America in any medical specialty as he/she will have already passed United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), Step 1, Step 2, and Step 2 Clinical Skills test, and be eligible for the ECFMG certification upon graduation from UCM.

Currently, in 2013/2014 Academic Year, we have students at Premed 1 and at Premed 2 years. In the next Academic Year, we will have our first patch of students in the MD 1 year.
